phantom power on Presonus AudioBox 2x2 USB and Ubuntu Studio issue..

Hello,

I'm running Ubuntu Studio (just upgraded to 14.10) with a Presonus AudioBox 2x2 USB audio interface. For Christmas I got myself a new MXL 990s condenser mic (60% off, sweet!), but when I plug it in and turn on phantom power, whatever app I have recording (Audacity or Ardour) suddenly has a heart attack; scrolling slows way down, and most samples are simply dropped, resulting in a very distorted recording.
When I turn off the phantom power, recording returns to normal and the mic continues to pick up sound for about a minute. Non-phantom powered mics (such as the trusty SM-58) have no issues.
Could the interface be jacked, sending spurious signals when phantom power is turned on? I ignorantly ran line-level signals through it a couple of times (not realizing you're not supposed to do that with this interface). Or could the mic be the issue? I have no other condenser mics to test with, nor do I have another working audio interface. Anything else I can do to troubleshoot?

Choppy video playback after upgrade to 17.04

Hello,

I am experiencing choppy video playback, once I upgraded from 16.04 LTS to 17.04. Since the upgrade process passed through 16.10, I am not certain when exactly the problem was introduced. Almost every video I play (with VLC, but also when trying to use kdenlive) begins good, but eventually starts to stall the image (while the audio is playing), then jumps to other frames etc. The stalling of videos within kdenlive is even worst (both video & audio). How can I investigate what is causing the issue and eventually fix it?

Phantom 3 drone on a big screen!

Hello,

We are trying to add functionality by mirroring the smartphone video stream on a large TV (which is not a smart TV) in our command post. That way the pilot can concentrate on piloting the drone, and someone else can be watching the large TV for whatever it is we're looking for. We tried it yesterday using a Chromecast plugged into the TV, connected to a Verizon Jetpack via wifi, connected to the smartphone running the app via wifi. It worked, but video was grainy and choppy.
I know there has to be a better way to do this, and at the same time, I'd like to simplify it as well. I've been looking at Miracast options such as Belkin Miracast adapter, that claims to eliminate the need for Wifi for it to work with a smartphone. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? At the end of the day, all I'm really trying to do is to stream a smartphone to a large dumb TV with the best picture quality and simplest configuration.

Car Speaker grounding out?

Hello,

I just installed some new infinity kappas in my car and it caused some issues. As soon as they were installed and screwed into the door, the stereo will intermittently lose sound. You can only hear a dim hum from the sub if the sound is turned up. When I took the speaker off of the door (still connected but unscrewed from frame), the stereo works fine. I'm assuming that the screws are somehow grounding the speakers and causing the issues.
Are there some screws that don't conduct electricity better than others? Does anyone have any experience with this and can maybe give me some other ideas to stop the grounding? I don't have the original speaker install screws and am using some regular metal screws.

Any help will be apprecited.

Pi Zero W wifi issues on Raspbian in headless mode

Hello,

I've received my Zero W yesterday, installed Raspbian Jessie Lite 2016-11-25 version on headless mode. I could not see wifi interface when I type "ifconfig" command. Then I installed the latest 2017-02-16 version of Raspbian Lite. But then the device blinked twice didn't boot up at all. Thought it was a faulty sd card but I'm using it now on my Rpi2 recalbox installed with no issues.
Am I missing something obvious?

Hello,

There is a grand total of 3 computers on the network at home, the two involved in this problem are both winxp machines. I decided to let the D-Link router/switch thingy manage dhcp for me, but it always gives us the same IP address anyways. THe problem is that, while file/print sharing works fine over tcpip, neither I nor my brother can join a War3 game started by the other person. They just don't show up on the list. I've dealt with this problem before in other games by simply adding ipx/spx but that didn't seem to do anything for us. It's like 192.168.0.122 and 192.168.0.108 aren't talking, but they DO for sharing files and whatnot.

Hello,

My computer needs a new motherboard so I guess there must be a procedure by which Mecsoft can de-register one computer and register another. I've had several disc crashes in the past, and the third time it happened, they as good as accused me of stealing their software and were very unhappy to give me a new licence! I don't want to be in that position again, and this time I can schedule the swap. Does anyone know how to go about this so it can be done seamlessly without losing days while the licence is sorted out for the new configuration?

Motherboard issue/question

Hello,

Long time lurker here, first time poster. I think I have an idea of what is wrong here but I would like confirmation please. I have an old LGA 2011 socket motherboard (Gigabyte hand me down) with a Xeon E5-2620-v2 with 32 gigs of DDR3 1600 ram, a EVGA 1050 PSU, 2 Nvidia 980 ti's. I do mostly rendering with it. The issue is on Sunday the system failed to boot once. After unplugging it for a moment it booted up and I went on with my life. On Monday the same thing happened only it refused to boot period for several attempts, then it did only the screen was green, fuzzy and with artifacts everywhere. I thought of several possible things, PSU, MOBO and the GPU attached to the display. The first thing I did was unplug the GPU the monitor was connected to and the system booted fine. Furthermore I have an old GTX 970 and I plugged it in the same slot and everything seemed fine until this morning. Today I have the same issue, so i immediately took out the 970 only the problem persists. If I unplug it for several minutes, it will boot up 'sometimes' but on the last attempt it wouldn't. So I am looking for confirmation of these symptoms, I belive now that the mobo needs to be replaced, which sucks as it is hard to find one. So I am looking at a Ryzen system if I need to replace the entire processing backbone (mobo, ram, cpu) as the price point and performance reviews seem good for rendering.

Fullscreen problem

Hi,

I'm having a problem with playing the game on fullscreen as it doesn't allow me to play in it at all, I changed the option in game and it juat goes back to windowed mode, I also tried changing it from the gamerprofile, in my documents and that doesn't save either. Is anyone else having this problem?? Also I have tried alt+enter but the screen just goes black but I can hear the music and navigate and I have to alt+enter again to see what's happening.
Any fixes or solutions would be appreciated.
